Mob Collect 2 RTS Craft & Design Awards

Having received 4 nominations for it’s adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s ‘Going Postal’ shown this Spring on Sky One, The Mob Film Company collected 2 awards at last nights RTS Craft and Design Awards.

Hosted at London’s Savoy Hotel, The Mob’s Executive Producers Vadim Jean and Ian Sharples were there to support all the nominees, and were very pleased to see our Director of Photography, Gavin Finney and our Composer John Lunn collect their awards for the outstanding contributions they made to the show.  Sadly, our other nominees, the VFX team lead by Simon Thomas and the Production Design team lead by Ricky Eyres, were not quite as lucky, although equally deserving.

In this heart warming documentary David Jason :The Show Must Go  On sees, one of Britain’s leading actors, revisit his Am-Dram acting roots by stepping behind the scenes of a modern day Society (Argosy Players) as he sets them the challenge of presenting a one act comedy (‘The Ass & The Philosophers) in London’s West End…  but with just three weeks rehearsal.

Follow the trials and tribulations of the actors and crew as they strive to balance their everyday lives with all that it takes to prepare for the West End.   Will it be curtains or a standing ovation ?

Going Postal going global

As new pictures of Sky1’s Terry Pratchett drama Going Postal emerge, the show’s international distributor All3Media has announced that it has made fresh sales in Australia and Germany.

All3 has sold the 2 x 2-hour mini-series, based on Pratchett’s Discworld novel, into Germany via home distributor KSM while in Australia BBC Worldwide channels has secured an exclusive pay window for the show.

All3Media funded the production in association with producers the Mob Film Company and Sky1 and is set to launch the series to the international market at MipTV in Cannes next month. The fantasy drama, about a con artist who is made to work in a post office as part of his parole, will broadcast in the UK on Sky1 later this year.

ALL3MEDIA Lands Deals on Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal

LONDON: Ahead of its MIPTV debut, the new HD drama special Going Postal, based on the bestselling novel from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, has secured a home-entertainment deal and an Australian pay-TV slot through agreements signed by ALL3MEDIA International.

In Germany, home-video distributor KSM has taken on rights for the territory. In Australia, BBC Worldwide Channels secured the exclusive pay-TV window for the show. Further terrestrial deals are expected. Going Postal is produced by the Mob Film Company, exclusive producer of Discworld adaptations and the team behind Hogfather and The Colour of Magic. Along with Mob Film Company, Sky1 and ALL3MEDIA are partners on the production.

Louise Pedersen, the managing director at ALL3MEDIA International, said, “We are very pleased to work with the highly respected and renowned producer Mob Film Company in bringing this spectacular drama to fruition. David Jason signs for Five documentary

Sir David Jason has signed on for a new documentary for Five, it has been announced.
The Show Must Go On sees the Touch of Frost star revisit his acting roots in his first ever non-acting role.

The 60-minute programme follows Jason as he mentors an amateur dramatic company and helps them balance their everyday lives with preparing a comedy play under his watch.

“I was astonished to learn that there are hundreds of thousands of amateur actors and groups around the country enjoying local drama as I did many years ago,” Jason said.

“It was such a great way for me to enter into the theatre and so I was very excited about the prospect of returning to the world of Am Dram and seeing behind the scenes.”

He added: “I hope the viewers will enjoy the programme as we see the exploits of one such theatre group.”

The Colour of Magic

April 2008

Terry Pratchett’s The Colour of Magic premiered over Easter 2008 on Sky One and is The Mob Film Company’s second collaboration with Sky One and RHI Entertainment.

The show featured an incredible international cast and starred David Jason (Only Fools and Horses, Frost, Open All Hours), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings, The Goonies) and Tim Curry (Rocky Horror Show, Valiant).

Supporting were an array of actors such as Nigel Planer, Jeremy Irons and David Bradley. The programme also saw a number of re-occurring faces from Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather such as Stephen Marcus, Arthur White and Nicolas Tennant.

The Colour of Magic was the second live action adaptation by The Mob Film Company of one of Terry Pratchett’s best selling Discworld novels. As before the programme was adapted and directed by Vadim Jean and produced by Ian Sharples and Rod Brown.

Michael Owen: A Year in the Life.

This documentary follows the international football star Michael Owen on his road to recovery from a career threatening cruciate injury, which occurred in 2006 playing for England at the World Cup, and also his dream to establish his own racehorse stables.

Shot in high definition this documentary is an opportunity for the audience to have unique access to one of modern footballs most private footballers and his family.

Directed and written by Rod Brown and produced by John Brocklehurst, ‘Michael Owen: A Year in the Life’ premiered on Sky One in September 2007. The programme was greatly received becoming the second most watched documentary on Sky One throughout 2007.

HOGFATHER SCOOPS SECOND BAFTA

Hogfather picked up its second BAFTA award on Sunday when Aidan Conway, Giles Pooley, Rod Brown and Ian Sharples were awarded the prize for ‘interactivity’. The Hogfather came up against stiff compatition from Dispatches (C4), The Big Climate Change Experiment (BBC) and The Secret Policeman’s Ball (C4) in order to triumph at the awards.

The programme, which was aired on Sky One last Christmas, has thus far received high acclaim from a number of institutions. In February this year the programme won its first BAFTA for the stunning Visual Effects used throughout the film. The Hogfather has also won the Multichannel Award from the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, and has been nominated for a RTS Award for ‘Best Drama Serial’.

The Hogfather, based on the Terry Pratchett Discworld novel, was a joint venture between The Mob Film Company and Sky One, and was directed by Vadim Jean whose showreel contains films including ‘Leon the Pig Farmer’, ‘One more Kiss’ and ‘Clockwork Mice’.

HOGFATHER is Sky One’s biggest ever single drama commission with a budget of £6m.

In 2007 Hogfather scooped two BAFTA awards for ‘Interactivity’ and ‘Visual Effects’, and was also nominated for an RTS Television Award in the ‘Best Drama Serial’ category.
The project marks the first ever live action / CGI film of one of Terry Pratchett’s 36 Discworld novels. The 2 x 120” HD film airs on Sky One in Christmas 2006. RHI Entertainment have secured the international distribution rights.

Terry Pratchett has sold over 45m books worldwide and is the UK’s second most popular contemporary author based on book sales, selling 2.5m a year (3% of the total book trade). The British author’s Discworld books are translated into 35 languages worldwide.

The novel has been adapted for the screen and directed by the Mob’s Vadim Jean (Leon the Pig Farmer) and produced by Rod Brown (Dream Team, Goal!) and Ian Sharples (The Virgin of Liverpool). Elaine Pyke (Dream Team, Hex) executive produces for Sky One and Robert Halmi Sr (Gulliver’s Travels, Merlin,|Dinotopia) is the executive producer for RHI Entertainment.
It has one of the best casts ever assembled for a British TV drama and stars Sir David Jason in his first ever appearance on Sky. Joining Sir David are; Joss Ackland (White Mischief, Lethal Weapon II) as Mustrum Ridcully, Marc Warren (Hustle, State of Play, Band of Brothers) in the role of Teatime, David Warner (Planet of The Apes, The Omen) as Lord Downey, Tony Robinson (Blackadder) as Vernon Crumley and Nigel Planer (The Young Ones) as Mr. Sideney, while Ian Richardson (House of Cards, The Final Cut) and Neil Pearson (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Drop The Dead Donkey) voice the characters of Death and The Raven respectively.
